Health and Wellbeing Services

The Health Centre offers a welcoming, calm environment with consulting rooms, a ward area, individual patient rooms, a day room, and a ‘quiet room’. Our experienced nurses are on hand for minor injuries, more serious illnesses, inoculations, sports injuries, and health advice, as well as to offer a listening ear for emotional support.

The Centre is open 24 hours during term time and is housed in a purpose-built facility. It is staffed by a dedicated team of nurses led by Health Centre Manager and Senior Sister, Ms Katy Crane. All boarders are registered with our school doctors, and day pupils who become unwell or are injured during the day also receive care here. Our nurses work closely with House Matrons and Housemasters/Housemistresses to ensure every pupil’s wellbeing.

School Doctors visit twice a week, and pupils can request a male or female doctor. For contact, please call the Health Centre on 01273 465 916 or Adur Health Partnership in Shoreham-by-Sea at 01273 466 052.

The Health Centre is accessible for students 24 hours a day with an open door policy, however we do encourage students to attend outside of lessons where possible. For sports or activity absences due to injury, our nurses assess and update an Off Games list daily. If your child requires special consideration after an illness or injury, please contact the Hub Manager so we can monitor their progress.

New students will receive a simple, routine medical check with our nurses upon arrival—this is a friendly way for our team to get to know them.

Our nurses also manage prescriptions, organise both short and long-term treatments (for example, for asthma), and make referrals when necessary. They are always available for health advice and are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle so that all pupils can fully enjoy life at Lancing College. Additionally, a Physiotherapist visits weekly.

Please complete the Medical Form detailing Medical History and GP information and return it to the Admissions Office. Ensure that full details of all immunisations and vaccination dates are provided—including the MMR vaccine—as your child must be up to date before joining us. During term time, NHS immunisation visits may be arranged at the College with your consent. If your child has a National Health Service number, please include it, as it is essential for boarder registration and useful in emergencies for day pupils.

Dental Treatment

Routine dental treatment is expected to be undertaken during the holidays unless you have made a specific written request for treatment during term time. In emergencies, you may prefer to take responsibility if you live nearby, or opt for one of our nominated dental surgeons (please note that this treatment is not available under the NHS and will incur charges).

Eye Tests & Optician Visits

We kindly ask that routine eye tests and any necessary fittings for glasses be arranged during the holidays where possible. If your child wears glasses, please ensure a spare pair is available. Should an emergency repair be needed, Housemasters/Housemistresses can often arrange local repairs. Please inform us of any optical disorders that might affect your child’s performance.
