Weekends

As a seven-day-a-week boarding school, weekends form an important part of Lancing life.

Exeat Weekends

There are five Exeat Weekends each year. Pupils may leave at 16:00 on Friday and return by Sunday evening (between 19:00 and 20:45) or by 08:15 on Monday morning. For the May Bank Holiday, departure is from 12:30 on Saturday (or after any sporting commitments) with a return by Monday evening or, by special arrangement, Tuesday morning. Please refer to the online calendar for exact dates. International pupils are expected to stay with guardians or, in consultation with parents, with a friend’s family.

Ordinary Weekends

As many boarders make Lancing their home during term time, those who remain on campus enjoy a variety of voluntary activities – including informal team games on the playing fields or in the Sports Hall, trips, shopping excursions, and access to the Art School, Library, sports facilities, and Swimming Pool and a relaxed dining atmosphere. Sundays are loved for the leisurely brunch served from 11:30. Food trucks on site add to the casual weekend atmosphere.

Chapel Weekends

Held four times a year, Chapel Weekends require boarders to remain at school, although older pupils (Fifth and Sixth Forms) may request afternoon leave to visit nearby areas. All pupils (day and boarding) attend the Sunday morning Chapel service, and we warmly welcome parents and families to join and enjoy the post-service refreshments. Day pupils may leave after Chapel, and a range of group events is organised on Saturday.

All pupils are expected to uphold their commitments to the College and their House over the weekend. It is essential that those selected to represent Lancing in sporting fixtures, musical events or drama do so, including attending any required practice sessions. We maintain a clear and consistent expectation in this regard, and permission to be excused from such obligations will only be granted in truly exceptional, one-off circumstances. Such absences are unfair on staff and fellow pupils. Any request for exceptional leave must be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the relevant weekend, the form is available on the parent portal. We appreciate your support in upholding this important aspect of School life.

Weekend Visits

In consultation with Housemasters/Housemistresses and with particular permission, Third and Fourth Formers may visit Shoreham or Lancing at weekends and Fifth and Sixth Formers may additionally visit Worthing or Brighton.

If parents wish to request weekend leave, the form for this can be found on the parent portal.
