Pastoral Care & Wellbeing
At Lancing College, pastoral care is at the heart of our ethos and fundamental to the success and wellbeing of our pupils. We believe that a balanced approach—nurturing both academic achievement and personal development beyond the classroom—is essential. Every pupil benefits from the dedicated support of their Housemaster or Housemistress, alongside their tutor, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and encouraged in their day-to-day life.
Our House structure fosters a strong sense of community where pupils can fully engage in the wealth of activities on offer while building lifelong friendships with peers and staff. Day pupils are an integral part of this environment, participating fully in House life, evening activities, and weekend events.
Our personalised pastoral approach ensures that every pupil has a trusted member of staff to turn to for guidance and support – whether it’s their tutor, Housemaster or Housemistress, matron, a member of the House team, one of our trained Peer Supporters or the College Chaplain, who offers a welcoming presence for all, regardless of faith or background.
We have two School Counsellors, Jacqui Painter and Christina Morris, who offer a free and confidential service. Pupils may self-refer or be referred by staff if they need additional support. Our resident Chaplain is also available to both pupils and staff, as is the school’s Independent Listener, providing an extra layer of emotional and spiritual guidance, no matter your faith.
